INTERVIEW
Part One
Questions I wanted to ask people
but was too sick to ask people
so I asked myself
Or,
An Invisible Bodymind Witness talking with the Invisible Bodymind
Invisible bodymind witness
When does an invisible embodiminded experience begin?
Invisible bodymind
If there is a beginning it is the small growing of the idea of losing the body. A biology told it is invisible becomes a social, cultural, conceptual disintegration of a body and a mind.
Invisible bodymind witness
A biology questioning thresholds of a limb, organ, eye, fingernail, bedsore, sympathetic nervous system, warm breathing and a left nostril?
Invisible bodymind
And the flesh.
Flesh dissolving is a bodymind decaying into an un-thing.
Flesh, the visible, gives a sensation of control over the body and mind.
They are “contained”.
An invisible bodymind has no flesh. No containment.
Invisible bodymind witness
No constraints.
Invisible bodymind
It is all ooze and loose and uncontrolled.
Invisible bodymind witness
Isn't that a fundamental difference between visible and invisible matter?
Invisible bodymind
That's how I remember it too. That "the traditional nature of material, as an object that resists any deviation from its first finality."(1)
Therefore... an invisible bodymind is not given to the laws of materialism?
Invisible bodymind witness
… it is not fixed in ideation or form.
Invisible bodymind
It is... resistive experiences beyond centralised form.
Invisible bodymind witness
An organism of biological void?
Invisible bodymind
It... is... like a void.
The embodimindment of an invisible bodymind is participating with a void... as a void.
My voice is a void voice.
Invisible bodymind witness
My voice is a void voice.
Invisible bodymind
There are no boundaries of the invisible bodymind.
There are no edges.
There are no hard joins.
[silence]
It makes me think-feel of Deleuze and Guattari's BWO.
Invisible bodymind witness
A body without organs.
Invisible bodymind
Yeah. A body... that is deemed useless to society because it is without productivist function.
And what emerges is a body that is free from existing only in connection to its capitalist, cultural and social predetermined purposes.
A body that is never finished. Open, fluid... in continual transformation.
A breathing site of experimentation and reconfiguring experiences.
A place of pure potential.
Invisible bodymind witness
And it reminds me of the short story from the early soviet era about an eighty-six square feet living space. The inhabitant is sold a secret serum…
Invisible bodymind
... Quadra... Quadraturin?
Invisible bodymind witness
That's right.
I can never remember its name.
Both the story and the serum are called quadraturin.
So, the inhabitant is sold a secret serum that will expand their small interior apartment space. The outside of the apartment will not be changed; no one will know this is happening. By accident, the entire serum is spilled and slowly over days and nights the space grows and keeps growing. The space feels “faintly familiar, large, but ungainly.”(2) It keeps expanding endlessly until the inhabitant is lost forever in darkness; in the invisible. Disappearing completely.
Invisible bodymind
This story has always depended on the fear of voids and vast invisibles.
Humans are innately uncomfortable with the invisible.
With voids. Of un-things and un-places.
Invisible bodymind witness
That's what made me think of it.
Of the story.
[silence]
What about a vast invisible... a void... at... or within an individual scale?
Invisible bodymind
Biological voids... are not passive.
An invisible bodymind is not an empty, unmoving void.
But a kind of... intangible connective tissue... except it not only supports the articulations but also articulates.
Functions of a formless bodymind morph and move slippery and heavy... respond... transform... transition… transfigure.
Unpredictable fluctuating states of unreliable un-matter and unseen bodymind events.
A kaleidoscopic intersectionality of uncategorisable organic liminals.
I am thick, fluid, porous, temporal ambi-connections and intimacies.
Brushing up against each other.
Moving in and through each other.
A biological void is writhing with complex interstitial dynamics.
Invisible bodymind witness
I want to share a question with you that you once shared with me. Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing’s question, “what if our indeterminate life form was not the shape of our bodies but rather the shape of our motions over time?”(3)
Invisible bodymind
A kind of constant by-chance biomorphic life?
... what if this “void” is a new kind of full; a state of about to be fuller than full?
Always forming.
Always moving.
Always growing and outgrowing.
Always resisting a first finality yet faintly familiar.
Always free and freeing.
Invisible bodymind witness
No ends.
[silence]
Invisible bodymind
Sharing about how this feels is like braiding raw eggs.
But... this is how my experience feels.
Whether or not this connects to anyone else... I need this out of my mouth.
Invisible bodymind witness
Your mouth is open and I am pulling it out.
Invisible bodymind
Yes.
Yes.
Thank you for this.
